The Plan

7 6+ 5+Week Driving Trip to see the West, all of it......before the girls, and their parents, get too old!

The Motto

“Focus on the journey, not the destination.
Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.”

Or as Captain Jack would say,
"It's not the destination, so much as the journey."

The New New "Last Reservation" and a Yellowstone Flashback

We have the Big Sky reservation (of the orange dots) on the north west edge of Yellowstone, and a night at one of the Yellowstone hotels, but that’s still not enough Yellowstone.  Two more nights at Flagg Ranch located at the southern entrance to Yellowstone and the northern entrance to Grand Teton National Park will hopefully be the perfect wrap up.

The Flashback, 11+ years ago before the girls, we stayed at Flagg Ranch with our neighbors and snowmobiled the southern loop of Yellowstone.   Absolutely one of the best days of my life!!!  Yellowstone in the winter is incredible.  And to think, I wanted to ski one more day instead.  Thank you Jody!

Google Maps and Orange Dots, too cool!

Go to Google Maps and type Hotels
then watch the orange dots appear!

As you zoom, more and more dots......
Places you never new to look for hotels, and cluster that can change your plans.  Two of the "Plan Changing Clusters", Mammoth Ski Area, CA and Big Sky, MT.  Both are booked!!!

Where to stay in Monterey?

From Yosemite it's off to the beach!  It will be the first glimpse of the Pacific for the girls, Karen included.  I've got my 40+ year old memories of Carmel!

With that in mind, where do you stay?  Right on the beach, or in the middle of the Monterey attractions?  I’ve got two nights booked beachfront about a mile north of the Monterey Peninsula, and a lead on a 4-star hotel next to the Aquarium.  It looks beautiful, sounds very nice, but not directly on the beach.  I’m a little concerned that 4-star and kid friendly may not mix there.   Let me know if you have suggestions before I make any non-refundable reservations.

For entertainment, I was thinking 5-some at Pebble Beach?
I’ve got some sweet picture ideas!

Knickers and a Kilt: $200
Greens Fees:  $495 (times 5)
Pebble Beach Sunset Pictures!
Priceless….NOT!!!!

I think I found a way to get over canceling the Grand Canyon Lodge Reservation

Booked a night at the Prince of Wales
Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta

And a couple more nights at the Glacier Park Lodge
Glacier National Park

Now if I can get the girls booked for High Tea at the Prince and on the Red Bus Tour at Glacier Park it will all be perfect!!!
